I attended the tank festival ‘Militracks’ held in the woods near the Overloon Museum in the Netherlands. It’s an event where WWII tanks and military vehicles from across Europe roam the forest, and if you’re lucky enough to buy a ticket, you can even ride in them – a paradise for AFV enthusiasts. Some owners bring vehicles that can’t actually run, simply to show them off, while others, full of service spirit, drive round and round until they’re covered in mud and overheating. A major bazaar is also held, with rows of tents from dealers selling old tank parts, military gear, specialist books, and tank-related toys.
I queued at the venue from Saturday morning, having stayed overnight ahead of the weekend’s Militracks event. Unfortunately, heavy rain since the previous day had left the surface utterly muddy. While it was impressive to see the bold sight of vehicles tearing through the muddy swamp with their caterpillar tracks, the poor conditions meant many vehicles refrained from running. The queue for test rides stretched endlessly, and for a while I thought I might not get a ride today. However, the weather improved in the evening, and I managed to get on the Kettenkrad.
I’ve uploaded a video summarising the Overloon location, the venue atmosphere, the array of vehicles, the speeding Kettenkrads, and the flea market brimming with bargains, so please have a look, unfortunately there is Japanese version only though.

I took many photographs, so please view them in the gallery at the link below.
